No, but seriously, wanna know a good technique?
Read the news. Physical format.
Why? Well, the news are so full of bullshit that, after long sessions of newsreading, you develop an ability, almost instinctive, to skim through bullshit and go to the point without missing a single detail.
In literature, it works exactly the same. You go fast through all secondary text (or bullshit, if you have to read a crappy book) without missing a detail, and adjust the rhythm as the text calls for it. This approach works a lot better for critical texts/essays than novels or narrative, but it also trains the eye and the brain to read faster than normal :)
It’s not a miracle technique, but it has worked for me. I thought it’d be worth sharing
